I’m really enjoying your recollections. They certainly reflect mine as well, particularly on my return visit in 1986 with Kathy. We were similarly invited to a fia fia and reluctantly accepted (like you guys, we were bushed). Ours was a smaller affair with just a family. But as were eating we began to hear music drifting through the air from the village church: Handel’s Halleluiah Chorus. We thought we were hallucinating, but it was real: it was December and the church choir was rehearsing. When one describes cross-cultural experiences, this rises to the top of our list.
